Scott Murphy Picked as Democratic Candidate for the 20th Congressional District

Scott Murphy has been chosen as the Democratic candidate for the 20th Congressional District seat left vacant by the appointment of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, by the 10 Democratic County Chairs whose responsibility was to find a candidate for the vacant seat in the 20th Congressional District.

This was a unanimous decision after an intensive, exhausting and thorough vetting process. "The process has taken this long due to the depth of the talent field amongst Democrats in New York right now. This is fabulous!" said, Columbia County Democratic Committee first vice chair Cyndy Hall. "We are 100% behind Scott Murphy. He has all the quality, skills, and experience that we are looking for."

Chris Nolan, Columbia County Democratic Committee Chair, emailng from Mali in Africa, expressed his congratulations on a job well done. Nolan said, "The goal was to find the best candidate for the district who can win and keep this seat, and we succeeded."

Scott Murphy is from Glens Falls and is currently Managing Director of Advantage Capital Partners. Several years ago he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Governor of Missouri. He is also President of the Upstate Venture Association of New York. Previously, he acted as CEO of Small World Software. Murphy holds a B.A. from Harvard, where he was President of Perspective, a monthly political magazine.

The six finalists who were interviewed today were all are extremely excited for our candidate and pledged to work hard to make sure that Scott is elected.

The Columbia County Democratic Committee and Democrats all over Columbia County will be mobilizing to make sure we send Scott Murphy to Congress.
